Privacy policy

Who sees what

Eclipse runs on a Contabo VPS. Contabo provides the hosting network and may process connection metadata, including IP addresses. Eclipse issues an access cookie when the site opens and saves your acceptance of the terms in this browser. Eclipse's connection service processes pages opened with Scramjet or Ultraviolet. DuckDuckGo or Brave receives the terms you enter. Visited sites receive the connection's IP address and anything you submit. Google receives requests for site icons and fonts used on the landing page. Each provider handles its own data.

Google Analytics

The Eclipse landing page uses Google Analytics to understand visits and improve the site. Google receives the page URL, referrer, activity on that page, software and device information, and your IP address when the tag connects. Analytics uses cookies to distinguish visitors and sessions. The tag is not installed in Eclipse's page view.

See how Google uses this data or use Google's Analytics opt-out add-on.

Advertising

The standard Eclipse new tab does not load ads. The separate ad-enabled page loads Adsterra code, which may contact Adsterra even when a placement is hidden by screen size or your ad setting. Adsterra and its partners may receive your IP address, browser and device details, and ad activity, and may use cookies or similar technologies. Adsterra selects the ads; Eclipse controls their placement. Some ads may open a separate page. See Adsterra's privacy policy.

Storage and deletion

When you create an account, Eclipse stores your username, profile, password hash, and saved settings, shortcuts, bookmarks, and history in its server storage or a connected database. It records each IP address used to sign up, sign in, or open your signed-in account, together with the latest date it was seen. The IP history is stored with the account in Eclipse account storage and is not displayed in Eclipse. Eclipse Chat stores friend requests, friendships, server membership, roles, direct messages, channel messages, reactions, message excerpts for notifications, notification read state, and attachments there too. Your display name and profile image can appear beside your messages to other chat members. Messages in the Eclipse community rooms are visible to signed-in users; messages in private servers are visible to their members and the Eclipse owner; direct messages are available to their participants, including people who are not friends. Server owners and permitted moderators can remove members and messages. The Eclipse owner can ban accounts from chat or delete an account. Deleting an account removes its profile, saved settings, cookie backup, and stored IP history; earlier chat messages may remain. Chat keeps up to 200 recent messages per channel or direct conversation; older messages are removed as new ones arrive. Uploaded files are limited to 500 KB and expire after seven days. Only the Eclipse owner can upload images to chat. Pages opened through Scramjet or Ultraviolet can leave sign-in cookies in Eclipse's local browser storage. If you sign in, Eclipse backs up those page cookies in an encrypted form; the encryption key stays on your device and is recreated from your password when you sign in elsewhere. Browser-protected Eclipse session and access cookies are issued separately on each device. Account data stays until deletion. Your web client and visited sites may also cache pages. Server and proxy logs may contain IP addresses and request details and are retained until they are rotated or deleted. Google Analytics retains user and event data for 2 or 14 months, depending on a property setting we have not verified; aggregated reports and cookies may last longer. Other providers set their own retention.

Age

Eclipse is not intended for children under 13. Parents can email us about a child's data.

02 / Agreement

Terms and conditions

Eclipse asks you to agree before opening its page view and remembers your choice in this browser.

Using Eclipse

Use Eclipse only where you have permission. Follow applicable rules, the terms of sites you visit, and the rules of any network you use. You are responsible for what you send in chat and what you upload. Do not use chat for harassment, threats, slurs, or unlawful content.

Chat moderation

Eclipse checks messages, edits, forwarded messages, and uploaded text files for selected slurs, including some disguised spellings, before accepting them. This automated check can miss harmful content or reject harmless text. The Eclipse owner may remove messages, ban accounts from chat, or delete accounts. Private server owners and authorized moderators can also remove members or messages in their servers.

Other sites and files

Pages opened in Eclipse come from independent sites and can change or fail to load. Only upload files you have the right to share. Files and messages sent to shared rooms can be viewed by their members.

03 / Guidelines

Responsible use

Use Eclipse only where permitted.

Access and content

Follow laws, site terms, and school or network rules. Paywalled or restricted material still requires the site's permission. Eclipse uses Scramjet or Ultraviolet to display pages from independent sites. Those pages may be temporarily handled by the connection service or cached on your device, by the site, or by infrastructure providers. Eclipse does not provide a catalog of third-party works or a saved page archive. Respect copyright and each site's rights.
